Update 6/14/2011....sadly the makers of Hornitos have removed the video from YouTube. They figured that the contest was over and now it was time to take it down.

Shari here! When asked what’s it like to put together a full on video production at the last minute, I simply comment “stress is like a magic wand, it makes everything so much better in the end.”

The call was a Friday afternoon in April. Not just any call but very special call from Red Light Management. A referral from AZ Event Promotional Icon Danny Zelisko! For those of you who don’t know who Red Light Management is (http://www.redlightmanagement.com/index.php?sect=home). They manage a lot of “A” list artists including the one and only Cheap Trick!

The task -- To pull off the impossible! I get the call Friday afternoon at 4pm to film the FOLLOWING evening. Not just ANY shoot, but with a myriad of complexity involving many. Who does this? Cinemacia does! I accept that challenge…and raise you a damn good job !!!

Here’s the story: Red Light, DKC Public Relations along with Hornitos Tequila wanted to film a web based video featuring Cheap Trick’s “Surrender” and promote a new Mariachi Mash Up contest that was set for release on Cinco de Mayo. Cheap Trick would be in town for less than 24 hours. They were playing a show at the Pima County Fair Grounds in Tucson, AZ, a good 100 miles from where we needed to be filming. We needed everything from the venue, mariachis, recording studio, backline, concert lighting…I mean everything. Now, I’m pretty connected on most of the rock scene here in Phoenix, and know of only 1 venue that could pull this off. The Saltmine in Mesa, AZ. ( http://thesaltmine.com/ )I’ve done some photos there before. What an amazing group of people and very accommodating.

The Logistics: The band flew into Phoenix on Friday afternoon for the gig later that evening, drove to Tucson to play, and after a killer show there, drove BACK to Phoenix to arrive on our set late at about midnight! Here’s the good part…After playing and traveling all day and night, the band was still personable, professional and dedicated to making this happen. Amazing!

With our director Keegan Ead at the helm and Cinematographer Webb Pickersgill making sure things had the correct position we were off and running. We did this all the shooting in about 4.5 hours and had the help of so many that night, we’re forever in their debt. We watched the sun come up and were all in agreement that Cinemacia had pulled it off !!!

The footage was then sent to Sam King (an associate of Red Light Management) for editing.

And VOILA !!! The finished product.

Update 6/14/2011....sadly the makers of Hornitos have removed the video from YouTube. They figured that the contest was over and now it was time to take it down.

James Kottak (drums) and Pawel Maciwoda (bass) held down the pounding rhythm that allowed the other three to do their thing. Kottak enjoyed a 10-minute drum solo that was accompanied by a stellar video production putting the skinsmith in scenes that recreated at least nine classic album covers by the band.

David St. Hubbins of Spinal Tap famously said, "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever." And the Scorpions straddled that line in front of a sold out crowd at the Dodge Theatre on Tuesday night. Fortunately, the German metal legends landed on the clever side.
